As part of efforts to curb the prevalence of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in the State, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has organised another version of its already existing “It’s On Us” programme, tagged “MEN WEY SABI” targeted at the male gender in different sectors and all walks of life.

Speaking at the event held recently at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Secretariat, Alausa, the Executive Secretary DSVA, Mrs. Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the indispensable roles of leaders of the various sectors would further create awareness in the nooks and corners of the State.

She revealed that the objectives of the programme were to educate men on evolving gender roles; promote positive masculinity among men; enlighten men on non-violence approach to conflict and the need to have respect for female gender.

While stressing that SGBV often takes the form of male perpetuation and women victimisation, Vivour-Adeniyi commended the over 200 men in attendance which included representatives of Youths Council, CDC, CDA, Religious leaders, Lagos State Parks and Gardens, NURTW members and other relevant groups in the State.

The high point of the programme was a group discussion on “Managing Expectations Associated with Men’s Gender-Role”. The panellists include Com. Adewusi Hassan Bello (Youths representative); Prince Kosoko Abiodun (Elders representative); Alhaji Salaludeen Mukaila (Clerics representative) and Abiodun Dare Sunday (Community Development Council representative).
