Innocent Olisa, a Lagos State resident, mistakenly made a double transfer to the First Bank account of Ugo Collins Uchechukwu, the founder of Emmanuel Divine Ministries, in 2021.
Olisa told FIJ that one of his relatives asked him to send N35,000 to the prophet, who also goes by the name Emmanuel Collins and the alias, De Seer 1 of Africa, on May 11, 2021, but the first transfer attempt via USSD failed. Then he made another transfer hours after that.
Unbeknown to Olisa, the initial transfer he deemed unsuccessful was actually successful and N35,000 was debited twice from his bank account. This meant that N70,000, instead of N35,000, left his bank account that day.
FIJ learnt that all efforts to make the prophet return the extra money transferred were unsuccessful.

“When the first USSD attempt returned as failed, I thought it was probably due to network-related issues. Only for me to repeat the transfer two hours later which was successful and, as I checked my alerts, I realised that even the first transfer deemed as a failed transaction was successful,” Olisa said to FIJ.
“When I discovered this, I promptly put the beneficiary on notice. I told him I made two successful transfers to him in error instead of one, and also furnished him with two separate debits alerts to support my claims.”
According to Olisa, the prophet kept promising and failing to return the extra N35,000. “He gave all kind of excuses until date,” said the Lagos resident.
“I contacted my bankers at GTB and his bank to initiate a recall process on May 20 all to no avail. My bank said they do not have the power to recall the money.”

FIJ could not reach the prophet for comments as calls to his phone went unanswered.
Follow-up messages were equally sent to Uchechukwu via WhatsApp and SMS texts, but no response had been received at press time.
