Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on DESOPADEC Matters, Owen Edafe, has organised a two-day medical outreach programme for the people of Edjemuon Yahwe community, Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area.
Declaring the programme open, Owen said it was aimed at making the people feel the impact of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which he said has the provision of better health care services for Deltans.
He said: “My appreciation goes to our amiable Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori for finding me worthy to serve in his government. The Board of DESOPADEC, led by John Nani and Festus Ochonogor is committed to delivering good health care services to the people and as such, is fully in support of this program taking place here today.
“There are people with different ailments for which early detection is necessary to avoid sudden death. As you can see, the people here despite their condition, are very happy to receive this free treatment and drugs we are giving them today. Hopefully, after today’s event, we will make provision to reach people from other communities.”
Dr. Sovereignty Oturu from Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, who lectured the patients on the importance of regular medical check- up, said many people die young of diseases and ailments that could be easily treated if diagnosed early.
Some of the diseases he cited were hypertension, which he described as a silent killer and blood sugar that could increase to a level difficult to manage if not discovered early.
