Fans Obsessed with Numbers, Alex Iwobi Says

Nigerian international, Alex Iwobi has acknowledged the modern football fan’s fixation on statistics and revealed that he has adapted his game accordingly.

The Everton midfielder admitted that in today’s game, goals and assists often override overall performance in the eyes of supporters.

Goals and assists have become the primary metrics by which fans judge attacking players.

Iwobi’s recent contributions include a key assist against Southampton that helped Everton to a vital Premier League point.

“With all due respect, nowadays people don’t even care if you play well, you know.”

“If you look at the game, they’ll just say, as an attacking player, did he score?”

“Did he assist? Okay, cool, then that’s it. I’ve locked that into my head, like, there’s been a few games where I’ve had a bad game, but I’ve scored.”

Changing His Approach on the Pitch

Alex Iwobi explained that he now actively seeks goal-scoring opportunities, even if it means sacrificing other aspects of his usual style.

“I’m just literally trying to get into goal scoring opportunities, like, even the last game against Southampton, probably didn’t play the greatest, go and assist. Ah, he must have done alright.”

By prioritizing end-product over elegance, the former Arsenal man believes he can help his team secure crucial results.

“So that’s literally what I’m trying to do, anything for the team, because at the end of the day, goals is what wins games.”

“So if I’m able to get a goal and assist, that’s what I’m trying to do for the team.”
