Ex-beauty queen, actress and film director Ibinabo Fiberesima is done cooking her latest theatrical movie, “Amanyanabo (The Eagle King)”, which premieres at the Odeon Cinemas, London, on the 29th of August, 2025, as she stressed the need for the historical movie to resonate with the global audience.

Ibianbo, who directed the epic movie, which retells the story of the Ijaw King, Ibanichuka Ado VI, alongside her former partner, Fred Amata is optimistic that the movie, when finally released in the cinemas, will surely spark global conversations on the importance of preserving the people’s history.

In a chat with NollyNow, the former resident of the Actors Guild of Nigeria,AGN, said there’s no better time to retell the stories of our past heroes than now.

According to the actress, the story of King Ibanichuka Ado VI is very dear to her heart, as it highlights his leadership and dedication to his people’s prosperity in the Niger Delta. The movie aims to reconnect the present generation with their past and revive African ideals of truth , equity and and Justice.

Ibinabo emphasizes the importance of telling stories of past heroes to revive Africa’s ideals.

According to Ibinabo, “We have abandoned honour, national pride and the placement of people over self-aggrandizement, instead resorting to the promotion of primordial interests. King Ibanichuka stood for his people and their prosperity. He bled for them and every strategy he employed as you would see in the movie was towards their prosperity.

“His example should be a shining light for our contemporary leaders especially in the Niger-Delta. It is sad but the truth is that the leaders we have today in the mould of King Ibanichuka can be counted by the fingers of one hand. Many of our children do not even know their proud ancestry. The West is strategically rolling out stories that keep interest alive in their children . So, why shouldn’t we?,” Ibinabo queried.

Starring: the likes of Nkem Owoh a.k.a Osuofia, Monalisa Chinda-Coker, Uju Okoli, Patrick Diabuah, Walter Anga Sunny Macdon among other Nollywood greats, “Amanyanabo (The Eagle King)”, shot in the creeks of Okrika and ancient Okochiri kingdom, Rivers State is described as “a masterpiece” that tells the thrilling story of the rise of a leader, the voice of a people, and the heart of the Niger Delta on big screen.

Ibianbo said after the London premiere, the movie will hit the Nigerian cinemas on the 12th of September, and thereafter, broadcast on a veritable VOD platform for a wider audience.
