The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has praised the Aliko Dangote Foundation following the introduction of its landmark N100 billion annual education scholarship programme, a 10-year initiative projected to benefit over 1.3 million Nigerian students in secondary and tertiary institutions nationwide.

In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND described the programme as a major boost to private-sector collaboration in education.

The initiative was unveiled in Lagos, with Vice President Kashim Shettima in attendance as the representative of President Bola Tinubu.

According to the statement, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, lauded the Aliko Dangote Foundation for its foresight and for supporting the Federal Government’s ongoing education reforms in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“On behalf of NELFUND, we applaud President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for championing collaborative solutions that strengthen our education system.

“The Dangote Foundation’s ₦100 billion annual scholarship scheme directly complements the President’s agenda to remove financial barriers for students and empower the next generation of Nigerian talent,” Mr. Sawyerr was quoted as saying.

He explained that the Foundation’s decade-long intervention, which targets public secondary schools, public tertiary institutions and includes a strong focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), would significantly strengthen national education financing efforts.

Mr. Sawyerr also reiterated NELFUND’s willingness to partner with the Dangote Foundation and relevant government agencies to promote transparency, efficiency and widespread impact in the implementation of the programme.

“NELFUND stands ready to engage, support, and work collaboratively to maximise the reach and effectiveness of this programme,” he added.

“We are committed to ensuring that no Nigerian is denied educational opportunity due to financial constraints.”

The Fund further stressed that strong collaboration among government institutions, the private sector and development partners remains critical to building a sustainable and inclusive education system, in line with President Tinubu’s call for shared responsibility in national development.

NELFUND hailed the Dangote Foundation on what it described as a historic milestone and expressed optimism that the scholarship initiative would have a lasting and transformative effect on Nigeria’s education sector.
