President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted 21 nominees to the Senate for confirmation to the boards of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), according to a press release from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, (Information & Strategy) on Monday.
Senator Magnus Abe, a former NNPC board member, is nominated as NUPRC board chair, while Mr Adegbite Ebiowei Adeniji, a lawyer with over 30 years of experience, is nominated as NMDPRA board chair.
Other nominees for NUPRC include Engineer Paul Yaro Jezhi and Mr Sunday Adebayo Babalola as non-executive commissioners, and Muhammed Sabo Lamido, Edu Inyang, Justin Ezeala, and Henry Darlington Oki as executive commissioners.
For NMDPRA, nominees include Chief Kenneth Kobani and Mrs Asabe Ahmed as non-executive members, and Abiodun Adeniji, Francis Ogaree, Oluwole Adama, and Dr Mustapha Lamorde as executive directors.
The nominees are expected to bring expertise and experience to regulate Nigeria’s oil and gas sector effectively.
President Tinubu has urged the Senate to expedite the confirmation process, emphasizing the need for stability and continuity in the petroleum sector.
The nominations follow recent appointments of Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan as NUPRC CEO and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as NMDPRA CEO.
The President has charged the nominees to discharge their duties professionally, ensuring efficient regulation of the oil and gas sectors.
The Senate is expected to screen and confirm the nominees soon.
