The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) says 22 of its staff members had been certified as international examiners by the City & Guilds of London Institute.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the certification is to ensure that Nigerian artisans have globally recognised qualifications.

The ITF stated this in a statement signed by Mr Thomas Ngor, Head of Press and Public Relations on Friday in Jos.

According to Ngor, the certification followed an intensive training programme aimed at strengthening instructional delivery, learner engagement, and assessment practices in line with City & Guilds’ global standards.

He said the approval for ITF to conduct the examination was communicated in a letter dated Nov. 1, 2024, by City & Guilds CEO, Kirstie Donnelly.

The letter affirmed ITF’s growing reputation as a credible institution for skills certification and workforce development.

He said the fund was also lempowered to deliver, assess, and certify a wide range of globally recognised qualifications across engineering, information technology, construction, hospitality, and allied technical fields.

He explained that the ITF could now administer City & Guilds examinations in industry-relevant competencies that would meet international benchmarks for levels 2 and 3 diplomas and other certificates in trades.
Ngor listed the fields as electrical and electronics engineering, as well as engineering maintenance technology.

The statement quoted one of the certified examiners, Mrs. Ola Yinka Shodunke, ITF Team lead and Director of Standardisation, Certification and Consultancy services Department, described the certification as a landmark accomplishment for the Fund.

Shodunke commended the Director-General (D-G) Dr. Afiz Ogun, for securing the City & Guilds approval and positioning the ITF as an internationally recognised examination centre.

According to her, the certification will significantly enhance the implementation of the Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) Programme, a Federal Government initiative aimed at training, retraining, certifying, and licensing Nigerian artisans to global standards.

“With City & Guilds certification now available within the ITF system, our artisans will not only be skilled but globally competitive, gaining qualifications recognised locally and internationally,” Shodunke was quoted as saying in the statement.
