Rivers State lawmakers have suffered a setback in their desperation to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The Chief Judge of the oil-bearing state, Justice Chibuzor Simeon Amadi, has rejected a request from the lawmakers to establish a seven-member panel to probe allegations of gross misconduct against Fubara and his deputy.
The Chief Judge said his decision was based on court orders that prohibited him from creating such a panel. He said he hoped the lawmakers would be “magnanimous enough to appreciate the legal position of the matter”.
