Abuja—The House of Representatives, yesterday, raised a motion of urgent public importance over the spate of deadly bandit attacks on communities in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, which have left at least six persons dead, 20 others abducted, and properties worth millions of naira destroyed.

The motion which was moved by Bello Kumo drew the attention of lawmakers to recent coordinated attacks on Garin Galadima, Pindiga, Garin Jaji, Laro and other surrounding communities, which have triggered widespread fear, displacement of residents and loss of livelihoods.

Moving the motion during pleanry in Abuja, Kumo noted that the attacks have forced many residents to flee their homes, deepening humanitarian concerns and worsening insecurity in the affected areas.

The lawmaker described the incidents as a grim reminder of the growing threat posed by armed banditry to national security, stressing that the safety and welfare of citizens remain the primary responsibility of government as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

“The continued killings, abductions and destruction of property in Akko communities underscore the urgent need for decisive and coordinated security action to protect innocent Nigerians,” the House noted.

Adopting the motion, the House resolved to urge the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and the North East Development Commission, NEDC, to immediately provide relief materials to victims and displaced persons in the affected communities.

The lawmakers also called on President Bola Tinubu, to urgently direct the Chief of Defence Staff to launch a coordinated joint security operation, including aerial surveillance and ground support, to flush out the bandits and dismantle their camps to prevent further attacks.
