The Osun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps, has confirmed a violent attack on its Egbedore Local Government Command headquarters in Awo, resulting in injuries to officers, destruction of property, and the theft of firearms. According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026 when a distressed civilian sought refuge at the Amotekun office after allegedly being pursued and assaulted by a group of hoodlums.  Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Yusuf Idowu Abass, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday said te victim, who had reportedly been returning from a local eatery, encountered an individual with whom he had a prior disagreement stemming from a football-related altercation the previous day. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the suspect mobilized a gang, which attacked the victim with dangerous weapons, including machetes, the statement read. “The victim managed to escape and ran to the Amotekun command office, where officers on duty intervened and provided him protection from further harm. “However, upon discovering that the victim had taken refuge within the facility, the assailants regrouped and returned in significantly larger numbers reportedly in the hundreds and launched a coordinated attack on the Amotekun command. “During the assault, the hoodlums vandalized office infrastructure, destroyed operational equipment, and inflicted injuries on officers who attempted to defend the premises and the victim.  “The attackers also breached security within the facility, further assaulted the victim with knives and machetes, and made away with firearms belonging to the command. “Despite the intensity of the attack, Amotekun personnel were able to repel the assailants and restore order.  “Five suspects were apprehended at the scene and have since been transferred to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Awo for further investigation and possible prosecution. “The Osun Amotekun Corps has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a brazen act of lawlessness and a direct assault on the states security architecture. “Authorities have assured the public that efforts are underway to recover the stolen weapons and bring all perpetrators to justice. Residents are urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing any useful information that could aid ongoing investigations.  The post Officers injured, weapons stolen as violent mob attack Amotekun office in Osun appeared first on TIME.I.NG.
