The Nigerian Army has rescued the widow of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar following a military operation against bandits in Katsina State.
Mrs. Abubakar was freed by troops of the 17 Brigade during a rescue mission after spending days in captivity. According to reports, the bandits fled their hideout following intense military pressure and heavy bombardment by security forces.
Sources revealed that the abductors shot Mrs. Abubakar during the operation before abandoning her and escaping the scene. She was subsequently rescued by the troops and has since been taken to a hospital, where she is receiving treatment. Her current condition has not been officially disclosed.
The development comes days after the death of Major General Rabe Abubakar, who reportedly died while being held captive by bandits.
The late senior military officer and his wife were abducted about two weeks ago in Matazu Local Government Area while travelling to Katsina State.
Security agencies have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing criminals and secure the release of other victims still in captivity.
The rescue of Mrs. Abubakar has been welcomed by residents and security stakeholders, who commended the military for its swift response and continued operations against criminal elements in the region.
