Victor Ambedane, a Nigerian migrant trying to make his way to Europe via irregular migration routes, has changed his mind and is seeking help to return home.
According to DW, Ambedane, who is currently trapped in Tunisia, had tried leaving the North African country twice by crossing the Mediterranean to Europe but failed on both occasions. The Nigerian said his experience was bad as he was attacked and robbed by some locals.

“We were attacked by the local mafia,” Ambedane said.
“They came to our house and took my mobile phone, my money and everything. Now, I don’t have anything. I have been sleeping rough for a week now.”
Ambedane said he had given up on trying to get to Europe.
“I just don’t know what I am going to do now,” he said.
“I am not even thinking about trying to get to Europe. I have two kids and my wife in Nigeria and I just want to go back. I am begging God, I’m begging the Tunisian government, to come to my assistance and just send me back.”

Earlier this month, a violent clash between African migrants, locals and Tunisia’s security forces led to the death of a local in Sfax, southern Tunisia.
After the Tunisian’s death, the country’s authorities forcibly took around 800 African migrants from the sub-Saharan part to the Libyan border, a place in the middle of the desert.
Some of the migrants were left without supplies or shelter in the zone between the two borders for days. Others were brought to the border with Algeria and left to survive in similarly life-threatening conditions.
