Members of the family of retired Judge Ifeoma Okogwu have raised alarm over her murder at her Asaba home in Delta State on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
It was learned that the remains of the retired judge were discovered early Monday morning by her family, with her legs and hands bound. Her home had also been thoroughly ransacked by the assailants.
While calling for justice over the brutal killing, the late judge’s brother, Ogbueshi Godfrey Okogwu, said the family was informed of the incident on Monday morning.
Okogwu confirmed that the deceased was found with her legs, hands, and face tightly bound and that her entire house had been searched and vandalized. He noted that one major concern for the family was the disappearance of the night security guard stationed at the judge’s home.
According to him, the guard on the morning shift claimed he found the gate wide open when he arrived and that his colleague, who was supposed to hand over to him, was missing.
“My eldest sister was murdered in her house on Sunday night. We only received the news on Monday morning, so we presume the incident occurred during the night. A major red flag in the investigation is the disappearance of the night security guard stationed at the judge’s home. The morning guard claimed he met the gate wide open when he arrived.
“He said he simply sat there. Sat there doing what? I do not know. I do not understand this situation at all. The family has already provided the police with the name, details, and logo of the private security company responsible for deploying the guards.”
He added that the police have already detained the morning guard, while the owner of the security company has been asked to report to the station, though he was not aware if the proprietor had complied.
“Only God knows what truly happened. We will not know anything concrete until the police complete their investigations,” he said.
The corpse of the retired judge was deposited in the mortuary immediately after the family notified the police and visited the security company’s office on Monday.
Delta Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, adding that some security guards arrested in connection with the murder are in custody, while one suspect remains at large.
