Militants from Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have executed a local chief from Yawal Kawa, Borno State. A security analyst, Brant Philip, who disclosed this via X on Thursday, December 18, 2025 said the terrorist group had abducted the chief last week and investigated him over ties to the Nigerian government. According to Brant, they found him guilty of cooperation and loyal to what they described as apostate Nigerian government as well as the Army, an allegation often used by the terrorist group to justify violence against civilians and community leaders in the state. ISWAP released a photo from the execution on its Amaq propaganda channel on Thursday.
