The Sango-Ota Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed patrol and rescue teams to respond to emergency cases on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The Unit Commander, Mr Akeem Ganiyu, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Ota, Ogun State.
Ganiyu said that the patrol and the rescue teams deployed around toll-gate, Bible College and Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway comprised of four personnel each.
He said that the two teams were deployed to control and manage traffic gridlocks along toll-gate and its environs before, during and after Yuletide.
Ganiyu said that the deployment was necessary due to the opening of the newly constructed sections of Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
NAN reports that the newly constructed roads from Dalemo to Abule-Egba Expressway was opened to motorists on Dec.16.
Ganiyu noted that there was the need for pedestrians to be careful on the new roads.
“Those crossing around toll-gate axis or coming from Ilo-Awera area, need to exercise patience in order to prevent being knocked down by upcoming vehicle.
“We are calling on motorists to drive cautiously and reduce speed to avoid unnecessary crashes,” he said.
Ganiyu also warned commercial motorcyclists picking passengers around the meridian of the expressway to refrain from such acts, to reduce road crashes.
He said that the FRSC would continue to collaborate with other sister agencies such as the police, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and others to educate road users on the importance of safety.
Ganiyu noted the corps and other sister agencies embarked on public enlightenment on Thursday when the newly constructed road was opened to create awareness for all the motorists.
He said that the construction company would resume work on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in January, 2022.
