Arik Air, a Nigerian airline, has made a part refund of N213,000 to Minabo Lawson, a Port Harcourt-based administrator who bought four tickets from the airline in 2022.
Lawson told FIJ that while he booked the flights worth N284, 000 on August 17 and September 22 respectively, the four passengers were to travel on December 27 of the same year from Port Harcourt to Lagos.
“On the due date, when they got to the airport, Arik Air informed them that their flights had been cancelled,” Lawson told FIJ.
“But then, they asked them to drop their account details that they would be contacted.”

The administrator said that this was the beginning of their chase with Arik Air as the airline would evade their calls and emails as well as make unending unfulfilled promises.
“After the December 27 incident, we contacted their customer care again on the 30th and we formally filled a refund form and submitted it alongside bank statements,” he said.
“We as well made several calls and sent numerous emails for months all to no avail. After a while, in May 2023, they told us they had initiated a refund process which would take 60 working days to complete.
“This was a lot of time considering when we first contacted them, but then, they didn’t make the refund after the 60 working days elapsed.
“We were beginning to suspect that Arik Air was frustrating our efforts to recover our money.”

The message from Lawson
FIJ first sent an email to Ola Adebanji, public relations and communications manager of Arik Air, on August 4, and he asked for additional details about the passengers and then promised to look into it.
Lawson subsequently told FIJ that a refund of N213,000 on the tickets was made on Friday with a balance of N71,000 still with the airline.
“Arik Air has finally refunded us our total sum. We are really grateful in no small measures for what you have done,” he told FIJ.
“Please don’t relent in this good work of helping humanity from corrupt system.”
