Please recall that a video recently went viral where a man named Mr. Olayemi Abiodun Ayeni made an allegation of “wife snatching” against a former president of one of the Lagos State Customary Courts.
It is important to state that the incident occurred in year 2014 and the President in question, Mr. Rasaki Ishola Adeyeri was relieved of his duties on 23rd of March, 2016 consequent on the investigation carried out by the Lagos State Judicial Service Commission.
Below, is an extract from the Report of the Disciplinary Committee that investigated the matter:
The commission received a petition from Mr. Oluyemi Abiodun Ayeni against Mr. Rasaki Ishola Adeyeri. The petitioner disclosed that Mr. Adeyeri presided over the dissolution of the marriage between himself and his wife while he was the president of Igando customary court in December, 2014. He, however alleged that two (2) months after the dissolution of the marriage , Mr. Adeyeri got his ex-wife pregnant, relocated her and his children to another apartment. He secretly married her at the marriage Registry at Orile-Agege LCDA on 31st December, 2015.
The Commission at it’s statutory meeting on 18th February, 2016, constituted a Disciplinary committee to investigate the petition written by Mr. Olayemi Abiodun Ayeni against Mr. Adeyeri Ishola Rasak.
FINDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE
i, Mr. Adeyeri had abused his office and was no longer fit to sit as President of a Customary Court.
ii, Mr. Adeyeri was morally corrupt and had brought disrepute to the image of the judiciary.
iii, In accordance with the public service Rule (PSR) 040102 (a&b), Mr. Adeyeri Rasaki Ishola should be duly sanctioned.
In view of the above, Mr. Adeyeri, Rasaki Ishola was dismissed as a Customary Court President with effect from 23rd March,2016 Vis- a – vis the recommendation of the Disciplinary Committee and in accordance with the PSR 040501 – 040502 (Serious Misconduct).”
