We hereby commiserate with the families of all athletes and officials who lost their lives in the tragic accident that claimed lives of Kano State sports contingent who were returning from the 22nd National Sports Festival.
This incident is a dark moment for Nigerian sports, considering the circumstances surrounding it as widely reported in the media, this calls for a deeper reflection from the Nigerian state and every sport stakeholder.
We urge the federal government to declare a national mourning, investigate causes of the deaths, with recourse to having a safer future for our athletes.
We plead with Kano State government to stand by the surviving person(s) and provide necessary support to the families of the deceased, beyond newspaper pages.
We urge the state government and National Sports Commission to help surviving person(s) overcome a possible Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which may pose future threats to the lives of the survivor(s).
We are very open to assisting the families and necessary authorities where help is needed on this issue.
