The Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun, has presented cash support to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and candidates of the party contesting in the coming state local government elections in his Senatorial District, reports thegazellenews.com
At a specially convened Senatorial meeting on Monday, 16 June, 2025, held at the Lagos Central Senatorial District Party office on Obafemi Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Senator Eshinlokun presented cheques to candidates vying for positions in the upcoming Local Government Council election in the Senatorial District.
This event marks a significant first by any Senator from Lagos State in the current political dispensation, setting a precedent for collaborative support within party ranks.
The financial aid distributed during the event was aimed at supporting the Chairmanship, Vice-Chairmanship, and Councillorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as the party structures in the district.
Specifically, each Chairmanship candidate received a cheque for the sum of N2.5 million, with an instruction to allocate ₦500,000 to their respective Vice Chairmanship candidates.
Each Councillorship candidate was supported with ₦500,000 to aid their campaigns.
The party structure, through the Party Chairmen, from the 5 Local Government Councils and 8 Local Council Development Areas, also got N2 million naira.
In all, over N120 million was distributed at the occasion. The transparency exhibited in this direct financial support speaks volumes of Senator Eshinlokun’s resolve to empower his party members.
The implications of this financial support are many and can significantly transform the political landscape of Lagos Central Senatorial District.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the state chapter of the APC, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi commended Senator Eshinlokun for the gesture noting that it is a welcome development in moving the party forward.
He also urged other elected representatives of the party to emulate Senator Eshinlokun and contribute towards the development and growth of the party.
The Chairman of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi also has kind words for the Senator noting that he has proved that supporting him to go to the National Assembly was not as exercise in futility.
“He has been making us proud and I know he will continue to do so. We are happy that he has not given any room for us to regret our support for him,” he said.
Other leaders of the party present at the event were: the Deputy Chairman of APC in the state, Prince Moshood Mayegun; the Vice Chairman for Lagos Central Senatorial District, Balogun Abayomi Daramola; Chief Olawale Oshun; former member of the House of Representatives for Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency, Honourable Jide Jimoh; members of the Lagos state House of Assembly: Honourables Gbolahan Yishawu and Desmond Elliot; and Chief Yahaya Dosunmu among others.
