Content creator Kenzy Udosen has revealed that his childhood played a major role in shaping the niche he carved out for himself on social media.
He disclosed this when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Friday.
Udosen is known for his social media content, where he dresses in female attire as ‘Madam Teresa,’ a witty woman who discusses day-to-day activities in a seemingly serious yet comedic manner.

“Growing up, I lost my father early, so I was surrounded by a lot of women. I am just the only guy among my four sisters, so there was my mum, and there was my aunt. There were just a lot of women growing up, and so influences like those, you pick up a thing or two, or more, a lot.
“So when it came down to creating, like, a career path, it was presenting at the time when I was in school, but that wasn’t very yielding at the time. I couldn’t see the path at the time.
‘Ndumodu’ Series
He, however, said things became clearer during the social media boom.
“And so there was this big boom on social media. I think it was Chris Clown, Maraji, they were doing stuff on social media.
“Josh2funny, you know, with his singing at the time, and I thought, ‘Okay. Why not, you know, get on, get into this?’ And the character, Madam Teresa, came to be.”
Udosen also said that he started as an opera singer, trying to mimic Josh Stefani, who he said hugely inspired him.
“I started as an opera singer. I was trying to mimic what Josh Stefani was doing; I was hugely inspired by Josh Stefani. But that didn’t quite, you know, fly.
“So I started doing some sort of what I call ‘Ndumodu’ Series, where I sit down and talk to people about day-to-day activities, do what you have to do, do this, do that, don’t do that. And so that’s how the character came to be.
Fashion ‘Police’
“As for the fashion reviews I just started this year, there was some sort of introspection where I felt like I wasn’t doing as much as I should have been doing,’ and so, I left Lagos. I went to Owerri because I feel that sometimes Lagos can be very chaotic.
“And so I went to Owerri just to spend some time, reconnect with the Igbo roots that had pretty much inspired my entire content, and Priscy Ojo’s wedding came.
“I wasn’t creating any content at the time. I wasn’t inspired by anything. I was like, ‘You know what? I just rate people’s fashion? But what’s the angle? You’re not really into fashion. What do you know?
“‘Okay, so come from this angle where you’re an Igbo mother who’s criticising what people are wearing. So, just make it fun, make it snappy. That’s what birthed the whole review thing that’s trending now.”
Content creation is popular in Nigeria; it attracted millions of social media users during the COVID-19 pandemic when people spent more time engaging online than offline.
Hundreds of pieces of content are created and shared daily on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
Aside from concerns over the spread of false information online, content creators keep social media users in Nigeria — a country with over 200 million people, mostly youths — informed, educated, and entertained.
