Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has firmly rejected Governor Monday Okpebholo’s directive that he must obtain security clearance before visiting Edo State.
Speaking on Thursday during an interview at Christ The King College (CKC), Onitsha, Anambra State, Obi asserted that he does not need permission from anyone to visit any part of Nigeria, including Edo.
“I’m used to receiving threats. I will go to Edo any time I want,” Obi declared, responding to what he described as an unnecessary and politically motivated warning.
Obi, who was at CKC to make a ₦50 million donation on behalf of the school’s old boys association, advised the governor to channel his energy into commending citizens who contribute to public development, rather than issuing threats.
The former Anambra governor praised the management of CKC, his alma mater, for their “phenomenal work” and noted that his contribution, along with that of other alumni, was aimed at strengthening education and public institutions.
Obi was warmly received at the event by the Archbishop of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, alongside school officials and students. The Archbishop, in his remarks, applauded Obi’s continued commitment to building a better Nigeria through education and civic engagement.
