Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to its zoning arrangement for the governorship, declaring that the November 8 election will not disrupt the rotational power structure.
Speaking during a massive endorsement rally held by stakeholders from Anambra Central Senatorial District, Soludo stated emphatically that his reelection would preserve the principle of equity, order, and fairness in the state’s politics. He argued that any move to retain power in the South after his tenure would undermine the rotational agreement that has ensured political stability in the state.
“There has to be order in the governance of Anambra State and the zoning system is already in place,” the governor said. “After Anambra South, where I come from, the governorship will go to Anambra Central. Therefore, for anyone coming from Anambra South to say he is contesting the November 8 election, that person is only trying to keep the governorship in that zone for 12 years, which is not acceptable to our people.”
Soludo traced the zoning arrangement to former governor Peter Obi from Anambra Central, followed by Willie Obiano from Anambra North, and now himself from the South. According to him, his reelection will ensure that Anambra Central takes its rightful turn in 2029.
“I don’t know who else is contesting this election, but what I want to assure you is that after South, power will shift to Central. If anyone else from South gets to power, he will stay for eight years and that will delay the turn of the Central. So, four more years for Soludo is better than eight years by anyone else,” he emphasized.
Highlighting his administration’s plans, the governor announced that his government is set to develop three new cities in Anambra and implement a railway system to connect all parts of the state. He added that he officially moved into the new Government House located at the Anambra Light House City the previous day, signaling a new era in the administration’s infrastructural development.
“You have not seen anything yet,” Soludo told the crowd. “We have more in line for Anambra people. We are targeting to win at least 90 percent of all the electoral wards in the Central Senatorial Zone.”
The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to ending fraudulent wealth acquisition, particularly the patronage of dubious native doctors, stressing that true wealth must come through genuine enterprise and service.
Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka, who spoke at the rally, declared that Anambra Central stakeholders had resolved to support Soludo’s second term ambition. He lauded the governor for the developmental projects underway across the 109 political wards in the zone.
