Chippa United are close to appointing Luc Eymael as the club’s new head coach as a replacement for Snethemba Badela.

The club has made the decision to fire Badela after a series of poor results that left the club in the relegation zone, with two defeats and a draw from their opening three games.

According to reports from reports in South Africa, the club has reached an agreement with Eymael.

The Belgian tactician met with the club’s president Siviwe Mpengesi and his son, where they discussed the project and shook hands, per Kick Off. He is expected to be introduced to the Stanley Nwabali and co.

Eymael returns to the club five years after he was initially appointed as the club’s technical advisor but never assumed duties, as there was a lot of outrage from the media, politicians, sponsors, supporters, and SAFA due to allegations of being a racist.

He was sacked by Young Africans in 2020 following racist comments, where he called the Tanzanian fans ‘dogs’ and compared them to ‘chanting monkeys’.

The Belgian claimed the comments were not directed at the Yanga fans but Simba rival fans, who provoked him and after which he apologized for his comments.

Eymael was banned from coaching in the PSL in 2020, but it was withdrawn in 2024 by SAFA.

It looks like Eymael’s current appointment with Chippa United will go through, as at the time of writing there hasn’t been any public opposition from SAFA or the club’s sponsors.

The 65-year-old managed Polokwane City and Free State Stars in 2017 and 2018 respectively. He won the Nedbank Cup in 2018.
