Senator Ned Nwoko has said that his embattled wife and mother of two must undergo rehabilitation for drug-related issues to safeguard her life and ensure she is in the right frame of mind to raise their children.
He made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.
Nwoko explained that his insistence on rehabilitation was based on a series of alarming toxicology results, adding that his wife’s once calm personality had recently changed, as she began exhibiting violent and destructive behaviour accompanied by recurring health crises.
The lawmaker said his desire was for the actress to raise their children in a healthy and stable environment while instilling responsibility and discipline in them.
According to him, rehabilitation would prevent her access to drugs while she completes her treatment process.
“I want her alive and healthy, not just for me but for our children,” Nwoko said. “We have two young kids together, and they cannot fight for themselves. I’m going to fight for them by safeguarding their mother.
“Many people have died from drug overdose, and if anything happens to her now, what will I tell her children tomorrow?
“I have lived with this problem for eight months. On three occasions, I had to carry her to Nizamiye Hospital unconscious from a drug overdose — you can go and verify it.”
Nwoko, who presented some toxicology results, said anyone advising her against proper medical care in rehabilitation was her real enemy and that of her children.
He disclosed that the toxicology reports revealed several substances with toxic levels that posed serious health risks.
According to him, recent social media denials by Regina Daniels’ mother and siblings dismissing the drug abuse allegations were baseless distractions.
“That is why I am saying everybody must calm down and join hands to save her, but she and her mother are living in denial,” he said.
“If her mother and those supporting her really want to prove me wrong, let them arrange for her to visit any toxicologist of their choice. I will pay. Even you interviewing me now, choose any toxicologist here or abroad, and let’s confirm.”
Responding to social media reactions questioning what could have driven his wife into substance abuse and why he failed to notice earlier, Nwoko accused her siblings — particularly her elder brother — of negatively influencing her.
“I didn’t think it was wrong to trust her siblings and their friends around her, but her brother, Sammy, and his friends have been a bad influence,” he said.
“Her close relations and friends that I trusted have been exploiting her resources to supply her with drugs, keeping her addicted. Imagine the pain of a husband trying to help his wife recover, only to have the process sabotaged by her siblings and friends.
“Each time progress was made, they would undo it by smuggling in the same drugs she was fighting to give up. Now they are shielding her from receiving treatment.”
Nwoko also expressed dismay over a recent social media post by his wife’s mother, Rita Daniels, alleging that his late son died of a drug overdose in the United Kingdom.
He described the allegation as an “inhuman attack” on the dead, noting that no autopsy report indicated drug-related complications as the cause of death.
NAN reports that the ongoing marital crisis between the couple became public when Regina Daniels accused her husband of physical assault.
She had announced that she could no longer endure the alleged abuse and declared her intention to leave the marriage.
However, Nwoko denied the allegations, attributing her behaviour to substance abuse.
