Senator representing Nasarawa West in the National Assembly, Ahmed Wadad, on Monday inaugurated the rehabilitation of the 18.5 kilometres Agwan Takwa Junction–Moroa Town Road in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, at the cost of N148.5 million.

Wadada, who performed the inauguration in Kokona, said the project was borne out of his interest in improving the socio-economic wellbeing of communities along the Agwan Takwa–Moroa corridor.

He explained that the road had significant impact on the lives of residents, especially farmers, traders and other road users.

The senator noted that he had previously graded the road while serving as a member of the House of Representatives for Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency, but decided to upgrade it in view of its importance to the area.

“This is not the first time I am intervening on this road. I graded it in the past, but considering its impact, we decided to rehabilitate it properly,” he said.

Wadada said the project would ease transportation, facilitate movement of farm produce to markets and attract investors to the area.

He also commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State for what he described as his commitment to infrastructural development, noting that the road project would complement the efforts of the state government.

In his remarks, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), described the project as a demonstration of Wadada’s commitment to grassroots development.

Adamu, who chaired the occasion, urged residents to promote unity, peace and mutual understanding, stressing that politics of bitterness would not advance the development of the state.

He recalled that the road had also been graded during his tenure as governor of Nasarawa State.

Also speaking, Mr Aliyu Ayitogo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Housing, who represented the state government, said the project aligned with the policies and programmes of the Sule administration.

Ayitogo said the senator had shown leadership qualities that reflected continuity in governance.

Similarly, Mr Daniel Ogazi, member representing Kokona East Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, said the project would benefit not only the people of Agwan Takwa and Moroa, but the entire Kokona Local Government Area and the state at large.

Earlier, the Abaga Toni and Paramount Ruler of Kokona, Mr Lawrence Ayih, commended Wadada for the intervention, describing the road as critical to several rural communities that had long suffered transportation challenges.

“With this upgrade, I see my people being relieved from years of disconnection,” Ayih said.

In a breakdown of the project, Engr. Douglas Chom, representative of Mo-Lab Construction and Engineering Ltd., said the rehabilitation would cover 18.5 kilometres and include the construction of three concrete culverts at a total cost of over N148.5 million.
