From Maryam Ahmadu-Suka, Kaduna
The Kaduna Citizens Watch for Good Governance has commended the Department of State Services (DSS), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) for their courage and professionalism in holding accountable the immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El’Rufai.
The group said the DSS, EFV and the ICPC acted in response to the yearnings and aspiration of the millions of downtrodden citizens of Kaduna state.
The group which led a peaceful procession to the Kaduna offices of the EFCC and the ICPC chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards with inscriptions such as, “Investigate and prosecute El-Rufai now”, “We won’t be silence until El-Rufai face the law” and “We stand with ICPC, EFCC”.
Other inscriptions read, “Citizens demand the El-Rufai be investigated and prosecuted”, “Investigate without fear or favour” and “Justice for El-Rufai’s victims”.
Speaking to newsmen, Chairman of the group, Comrade Victor Duniya urged the security agencies to remain unyielding in pursuit of justice in El-Rufai’s N432 billion fraud case and his conscious attempt to compromise national security.
According to him, “The recent detention of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, first by the EFCC on February 16, 2026, and subsequently by the ICPC on February 18, 2026, marks a watershed moment in Nigeria’s fight against corruption. It is a pointer that no citizen, regardless of his status, is above the law. We are here to declare that the voices of the downtrodden masses of Kaduna, who were systematically shortchanged by his administration, are finally being heard.”
He recalled that, “On June 5, 2024, the Kaduna State House of Assembly, through its Ad-hoc Committee report, indicted the former governor for the diversion of a staggering N432 billion in public funds and money laundering.”
He said, “Following the indictment, our movement led a team of patriotic citizens in protest to the Government House and signed a petition calling for his immediate prosecution.
“Today, we are happy to return back to tell the EFCC and the ICPC: Kudos! You have acted on the yearning and aspirations of millions of downtrodden citizens of Kaduna State by ensuring that the petitions brought before you are acted upon diligently.
“We are particularly happy that Security Agencies have opened a fresh file to investigate the forced disappearance of Dadiyata, a known critic of the administration of Malam Nasir El-Rufai. His utterances during an interview with Arise TV showed that he has information that will help solve that Six years mystery.”
He noted that, “As victims of insecurity caused by his negligence while in power and conscious effort to compromise National Security through the bugging of the phone lines of the National Security Adviser, we are glad that the DSS has since filed charges against the former Kaduna dictator who ruled the state like an Emperor. We will continue to stand with the DSS and all relevant Security Agencies as they work hard to rid our country of Security Challenges.
“We urge the ICPC, EFCC, and DSS to remain focused and not be distracted by the wailing of minority voices and political apologists who are currently screaming and attempting to dwarf the voices of reason. The attempt by the former governor’s aides to distract the public with claims of “nosebleeds” and health scares is a cheap tactic to garner sympathy and derail the course of justice. We have absolute confidence in the capacity of these agencies to provide him with the necessary care while ensuring he remains in custody to answer for his crimes.
“We are optimistic that the delay in inviting El-Rufai was specifically to allow the anti-graft agencies to establish a watertight, concrete, and evidence-based foundation upon which he will be prosecuted. The people of Kaduna State are all victims of that kleptomaniac administration, and we demand nothing short of a full prosecution and the return of our stolen funds
