Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued two persons abducted by suspected kidnappers in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba.

The acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lt. Umar Muhammad, made this known in a statement issued on Monday in Jalingo.

He stated that the rescue followed a fighting patrol launched in the early hours of Saturday after credible intelligence on the activities of suspected kidnappers in the Lande Jessi general area of Lau Local Government Area.

He said the troops received reports that armed men had attacked Tashan Musa and Barkindan Fulani villages, abducting two residents and carting away food items.

According to him, the troops immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation, leading to successful rescue of the victims, identified as Usman Mohammed and Usman Harusu.

He said the victims spent about one week in captivity before they regained freedom unharmed as efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.

He then quoted Brig.-Gen. Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, the Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, as describing the operation as “another demonstration of military’s resolve to protect lives and property.

“The troops have once again demonstrated professionalism, courage and resilience in responding swiftly to credible intelligence and rescuing the victims.”

He said the operation aligned with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, to sustain offensive operations against criminal elements across the country.

Akaliro urged the troops to remain vigilant and sustain ongoing operations so as to deny criminals freedom of action within the brigade’s area of responsibility.

He also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance efforts at tackling insecurity.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that troops of the 6 Brigade have intensified fighting patrols and intelligence-driven operations across parts of Taraba in recent months, as part of ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.(NAN)
