First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for the transformation of Abuja’s City Gate, describing the project as a remarkable legacy that has redefined one of the nation’s most prominent landmarks.

Speaking on Monday at a ceremony recognising the FCT Administration’s environmental efforts under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Green Nigeria Challenge, Mrs Tinubu said the redevelopment demonstrated how neglected public spaces could be converted into beautiful and functional recreational centres.

She expressed confidence that Wike’s contributions to the capital city would earn him lasting recognition.

The First Lady described the remodelled City Gate as a fitting gateway to the nation’s capital and a model for environmental renewal.

She said the project aligned with the objectives of the Green Nigeria Challenge, which promotes the restoration of abandoned public spaces and a cleaner environment.

Recalling her first visit to the revamped site, Mrs Tinubu said she was astonished by the scale of the transformation, praising the FCT minister for delivering what she described as an outstanding project.

She told Wike that history would remember his efforts, declaring that “posterity will judge you well.”

Responding, Wike said the project was inspired by the First Lady’s call for Abuja to reflect the standards of other world capitals.

He explained that after she challenged the FCT Administration to improve the appearance of the City Gate, the original designers of the landmark were engaged to develop a new concept that has since turned the area into a lively recreational destination.

The minister thanked the First Lady for recognising the administration’s efforts, noting that her encouragement had strengthened the FCT’s resolve to create a cleaner, greener and more attractive capital city.

He added that the administration plans to replicate the initiative in the Lifecamp area by transforming another public green space into a modern recreational hub.
