The Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture, Mercy Dagogo Iboroma, has charged directors, heads of departments, and staff of the ministry to refocus on results-driven service delivery to advance food security, job creation, and economic growth in the state. She gave the charge during her inaugural meeting with staff at the ministry’s headquarters in Port Harcourt, setting a decisive tone for her tenure.

During the interactive session, Iboroma emphasized that the ministry plays a pivotal role in the actualization of the state government’s developmental agenda. Under the leadership of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Rivers State is placing a renewed premium on agricultural development as a viable pathway to economic diversification. The Permanent Secretary noted that achieving these lofty goals requires a highly motivated, disciplined, and proactive workforce.

“Our mandate is clear, and our impact must be felt by the citizens of Rivers State,” Iboroma stated. She urged the staff to move away from bureaucratic complacency and embrace innovative, modern agricultural practices that can boost local production. According to her, food security is a national security priority, and Rivers State must take the lead in ensuring its citizens have access to affordable and quality agricultural products.

Furthermore, the Permanent Secretary highlighted the potential of the agricultural sector to curb youth unemployment. By creating structured opportunities in crop production, fisheries, livestock, and agro-processing, the ministry can empower thousands of youths across the state. She challenged the directors to design actionable programs that translate government policies into tangible benefits for local farmers and agro-entrepreneurs.

In response, the staff expressed their readiness to cooperate with the new leadership. Heads of departments pledged their commitment to meeting targets and improving administrative efficiency. The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to foster a collaborative work environment built on accountability, mutual respect, and a shared vision for agricultural transformation in Rivers State.
