ABEOKUTA — Ogun State has been ranked as the second best-performing state in Nigeria in the 2025 State Performance Index (pSPI) released by Phillips Consulting, reinforcing what analysts describe as steady progress under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.
The ranking places Ogun State just behind Lagos State, with Kaduna, Adamawa and Niger completing the top five in the nationwide assessment.
According to the report, the index evaluates state performance using a combination of governance data and citizen perception surveys, covering key sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, fiscal management and economic development.
Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the Governor, Kayode Akinmade, said the result reflects the impact of the administration’s development blueprint, known as the ISEYA agenda.
The State Performance Index (pSPI), compiled by Phillips Consulting, uses 70 per cent objective performance indicators and 30 per cent citizen feedback to assess how effectively state governments deliver public services.
It further examines fiscal discipline, infrastructure expansion, healthcare delivery, education outcomes and overall economic performance across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The report highlighted Ogun State’s strong performance in industrial growth, infrastructure development and economic competitiveness, noting its strategic position as a major manufacturing hub due to its proximity to Lagos State.
It added that the state continues to attract significant investments in logistics, agro-processing, housing and industrial parks, contributing to its rising economic profile and improved national standing.
Phillips Consulting explained that the index serves as a governance benchmark designed to help policymakers, investors and development partners evaluate state-level performance using evidence-based metrics.
The firm noted that the 2025 edition places greater emphasis on combining verified public data with citizen experiences to provide a balanced assessment of governance outcomes.
The latest ranking further strengthens Ogun State’s reputation as a key destination for investment and industrial expansion, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, boost economic opportunities and enhance the standard of living for residents.
