Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Northen States’ Chapter (A-Zone) and Southern States’ Chapter have declared support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmad Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.

The zones asked its members across board to come out en mass and vote for the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

On his part, Amir of MSSN B-Zone (Southern zone), Qaasim Odedeji, endorsed Tinubu-Shettima ticket at the 2023 National Higher Institutions Convention Of Muslim Students, an annual national programme of the MSSN which brings together members of the society in tertiary institutions of learning across the 17 states of the Southern Nigeria.

MSSNLAGOS SILENT

However, efforts to reach officials of the MSSNLagos, which is considered the most-vibrant Area Unit proved abortive.

Calls put across to the MSSNLagos Amir, Miftahudeen Thanni, were not successful.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of MSSNLagos asked our correspondent to send a text message.

However, he has not responded to the text message as of the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, when the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Femi Hamzat, visited the MSSNLagos IVC camp in December, Amir Miftahudeen said, “We are not making any demand now because we don’t want to be misquoted as endorsing any politician. You are our brother and father and we sincerely wish you the best. We pray Allah grant your heart desires and lift you higher. Like you know, MSSN is non-partisan and we believe that Allah will make the best leaders to emerge.”

WE ARE FIRMLY BEHIND TINUBU-SHETIMA –  A-ZONE

In a statement signed by its Amir and Secretary, Muhammad Bin Isa and Auwalu Inusa respectively, MSSN A -Zone noted that it would be a “deadly hypocrisy” for it to sit on the fence regarding the 2023 elections, adding that it would give its support to Bola Tinubu.

The statement read in part, “In matters of great importance and unquantifiable consequence, at a critical point in our national history we cannot afford to sit on the fence. Where the general interest of the Muslim Ummah is at stake, silence becomes a deadly hypocrisy.

“Having said this, in view of the circumstances surrounding the general election which comes up across the nation on Saturday, it has become necessary to take a definite stand to stand firmly where we have reasons to believe, the candidate has the most coloration of our identity and capacity to bring about stability and progress in the areas of the economy, security, education, and other sectors to facilitate self-actualization for our members.

“After due consultations with leaders of the Society at various levels, members and elders, we have come to the sincere conclusion that for the presidential election Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the best candidate for the good of the Muslim Ummah and our members across the 19 states of the North. Come Saturday, February 25th, we are calling on all our members across the North, to come out en masse, to vote for the ticket that is completely Muslim – vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima as President and Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, respectively.”

Tinubu, the presidential contender under the All Progressives Congress, APC, is contesting against three other major contenders, including Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian People’s Party, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

WHY WE ARE SUPPORTING TINUBU- SHETTIMA TICKET – MSSN B-ZONE

Qassim in his speech at the opening ceremony of 2023 NHICOMS held on February 18 at the Obafemi Awolowo University, said, “Nigeria is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society whose citizens are predominantly Muslims with less than 45% Christians and other adherents of African traditions. It is a known fact that Muslims from the North ruled the country successfully while Christians from the south enjoyed ruling of Nigeria as Head of State and Presidents succeeding one another . Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe, Major General Aguyi Irosi, Earnest Sonekkan, President Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Ebele Gooddluck Jonathan led the country from the south with no single Muslim from the South considered worthy of leading the country and some of these individuals like chief Obafemi Awolowo choose Christians as running mates.  Ditto for Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe who also chose a Christian as running mate in 1979 general elections.  Former President Olusegun Obasanjo singlehandedly installed another Christian from the south as President.  The Muslims from the South did not threaten the security and existence of the country. It is unfortunate that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) cried out hypocritically and has been making the world to see the Tinubu-Shetima as evil and canvassing for Peter Obi, a Christian as her choice.

Unequivocally, the Muslim youth in the south as a matter of urgency and importance should be proactive in mobilising the teeming Muslim populace to vote for a candidate from the Southwest of Nigeria. This is the second chance after Alhaji M.K.O Abiola, a Muslim philanthropist from the South was denied the opportunity to lead the country after winning with landslide victory in 1993 general election.

“History beacons again,  we must not allow ourselves to be bitten in the same hole twice. We must put interest of Islam at heart because a worst Muslim is better than a good christian in being fair in governance. However, Aṣiwaju Tinubu is not a bad Muslim.

“All of us must mobilize our friends and family to come out and vote massively for Tinubu-Shetima ticket in the Presidential election coming on Saturday, 25 February, 2023.

“No Muslim should fall into the trap of the Christians as they propagate their candidate who lacks competence and capacity to govern Nigeria at  this critical period.

“We must rise and show the need to vote for Tinubu-Shetima in order to let the World know that, Muslims are in majority in the country and to have Muslim as President from the Southern Nigeria. The candidature of Tinubu is carefully chosen based on his score cards as former Governor of the New Lagos whose architectural plans extended to other regions with progressive development.

“It is now glaring that CAN leadership in power is using all available means to let us see that it is fight of faiths and all tactics including naira redesign crisis are been employed to frustrate the Muslim -Muslim ticket of APC.”
