Erinayo Apapa (not real name), a Lagos-based blogger, has shared how Globacom Telecommunications company deactivated her number twice in 12 months.
The blogger is currently barred from making calls on her Glo line.
Apapa told FIJ that the network provider first barred her line from making calls on May 2, 2022, over an unexplained issue.
She stated that while the issue was resolved with a lot of back and forth, the telecommunication company didn’t state the exact cause of the disconnection.
“On May 2, 2022, I suddenly discovered that I wasn’t able to make calls. I was surprised at this because I had since linked my National Identity Number (NIN) with my phone number,” she told FIJ.

“I then reached out to them via email to complain, but they didn’t resolve it. I also visited one of their help centres in Fadeyi, Lagos, but the issue lingered. They couldn’t state the exact thing wrong with my line.
“I got so pissed and then threatened to bring them bad publicity if nothing was done. At this point, they responded with an apology, and my line began to work, surprisingly. This was on May 24.”
The blogger said that the recent issue started on June 1, 2023, when she received a text message from Glo that her NIN did not match the one they had on record and so her line could be deactivated.

“I was surprised when I got the text message from them. I thought it was a joke because we had been over this before,” Apapa said.

“The last time my line was disconnected, I was asked to re-link my NIN to it and also submit it to them for the linking. I did all these and could make calls for nearly a year before they deactivated it again.
“I sent them an email of complaint on June 26, but they didn’t even acknowledge or respond to it.
“Their action has cost me a lot more than I am willing to recount.”
FIJ sent an email to the telecommunications company on Tuesday, but no response was received. The message sent via its Facebook page has also not been attended to hours after it was acknowledged and the company noted that a member of its team would respond shortly.
The two phone numbers obtained on the company’s website were called several times, but FIJ only got an automated response saying the numbers were not valid.
