The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) is gearing up for its highly anticipated 2024 Annual General Conference, which will take place from August 23-27 in Lagos.
The five-day event, themed “The Future of Africa Amid Rising Security, Economic and Political Challenges”, promises to be a platform for robust discussions and insights on key issues facing the legal profession and the nation as a whole.
The conference will kick off on Friday, August 23 with the opening of delegates’ registration at the Cricket Pitch Car Park in Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS). On Saturday morning, attendees will participate in a health walk from TBS to Onikan Stadium, followed by a tree planting event.
The official opening ceremony will be held on Sunday, August 25 at the Eko Hotel & Suites Convention Centre. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, GCON, and the conference will be declared open by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Monday and Tuesday will feature a packed schedule of plenary sessions and breakout panels covering a wide range of topics, from artificial intelligence and the practice of law, to security challenges, economic growth, and access to justice. Notable speakers include former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama and Hon. Justice Amina Augie, JSC (Rtd).
The conference will also showcase various social events and activities, including the President’s Dinner, the Finals of the President’s Cup Football Competition, a Lagos State Showcase session titled “Eko For Show!”, and the popular “UnBARred” social night.
The AGC will conclude on Wednesday with the Annual General Meeting at TBS, followed by a press conference and the inauguration of the newly elected NBA national officers at the Nigerian Law School Auditorium.
With over 10,000 legal practitioners expected to attend, the 2024 NBA-AGC promises to be an impactful gathering that will help shape the future direction of the Bar and contribute to national discourse. As NBA President Yakubu Maikyau, SAN noted, “This year’s conference comes at a critical time for our nation. It provides an important forum for the legal community to lend our expertise and voice to addressing the pressing challenges we face.
