The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 25 suspected internet fraudsters in a sting operation conducted near Bayero University Kano (BUK).
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, noting that the arrests took place on Monday opposite the BUK New Site.
According to Oyewale, the operation followed actionable intelligence linking the suspects to cybercrime activities.
“All suspects apprehended are confirmed to be undergraduate students of BUK,” he said.
Items recovered during the raid include mobile phones, laptops, internet routers, and a Honda Accord vehicle.
Oyewale explained that the arrests came after weeks of surveillance which linked the students to internet fraud, identity theft, and other financial scams.
He added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
