Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, has urged members of the legal profession to prioritize mental health, emphasizing that true leadership goes beyond intellect and professional accomplishments.
Speaking on World Mental Health Day, Akangbe highlighted the immense pressures faced by legal practitioners, noting that behind the robes and courtroom arguments are human beings who deserve care, understanding, and emotional support.
“Mental health is not a privilege reserved for a few, it is a universal right that must be protected, promoted, and respected at all levels,” he said.
He called on the legal community to foster an environment where empathy is valued, support is accessible, and no one struggles in silence. Akangbe stressed that cultivating such a culture strengthens the Bar and society at large.
“As members of the legal profession, let us reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that every individual feels seen, supported, and valued, and where mental health is a shared priority,” he added.
