The Nigerian Army has commenced the construction of a new training depot at Amasiri-Edda in Afikpo and Edda Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State to boost national security and expand training capacity.

Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele in a press release on Wednesday said groundbreaking ceremony, held on January 13, 2026, was performed by Ebonyi State Governor, Dr (Builder) Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

She said the project was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as part of efforts to ensure equitable distribution of military infrastructure across the country.

Governor Nwifuru thanked the President and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General W. Shaibu, noting that the depot would enhance youth participation from the South-East in Nigerian Army recruitment and contribute to socio-economic development.

Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Oluremi Fadairo said the depot would promote inclusive national representation and urged youths in the region to take advantage of the opportunity to enlist.

The new facility brings the number of Nigerian Army training depots to three, alongside those in Zaria and Osogbo.
