The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has indicated that Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the party’s nomination for the 2026 governorship election, pending resolution of the ongoing crises within the party.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Monday, Osun PDP Chairman, Mr. Sunday Bisi, said the internal disputes at the national level have made it impossible to hold the governorship primary originally scheduled for December 2.
Bisi confirmed that Adeleke complied with all requirements for the party’s nomination process. He submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms within the stipulated window from October 13 to 25, 2025, and appeared before the screening committee on October 30, where he was cleared without reservations.
“However, soon after these pre-primary processes, the internal imbroglio within the national leadership escalated,” Bisi said. He explained that the suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers disrupted congresses and primaries, preventing the election of delegates for the governorship primary. “These issues are presently before various courts across the country,” he added.
Bisi stressed that, as a result, the PDP governorship primaries can no longer hold as scheduled. He added that Adeleke’s continued interest in contesting may depend on a resolution recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) within the commission’s timeline for the Osun poll.
According to INEC’s timetable for the August 8, 2026 governorship election, parties have until December 15, 2025, to submit the names of their candidates.
