The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of one Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), and 26,119 Inspectors across the Nigeria Police Force.
The approvals were ratified during the Commission’s 3rd Plenary Meeting held on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the PSC, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Funsho Adegboye, mni, was promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG).
The Commission also elevated Commissioner of Police Danjuma Aboki and Commissioner of Police Dansabo Idi to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) following successful written examinations and oral interviews.
In a major career advancement exercise, the PSC further approved the promotion of 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II). The promotion was based on their performance in the recently concluded Departmental Selection Board Examination.
Profiles of Promoted Senior Officers
Before his elevation, DIG Funsho Adegboye, mni, served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. His policing career spans decades and includes key postings in Operations, Training, and Administration.
He has served as Divisional Police Officer, Area Commander in Ijero and Ile-Ife, Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations in Ondo State, and Commissioner of Police in several strategic formations including Homicide (FCID), Force Intelligence Department (FID), and Edo State Command. His international experience includes deployments with United Nations Missions in Kosovo, Liberia, Timor, and Somalia.
AIG Danjuma Aboki was, until his promotion, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Imo State Police Command.
AIG Dansabo Idi, prior to his elevation, served as the Acting Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Research and Planning at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. His service record includes postings as Divisional Police Officer in Kebbi and Kaduna States, Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) in Kebbi, and several strategic assignments at the Force CID, Abuja.
He has also served as Area Commander in Yauri, Owo, Awe, and Kosoboso, Commander of the 63 Police Mobile Force, Ikorodu, Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Zone 1 Lagos, Commandant of the Police College, Kaduna, and Commissioner of Police, Investment, Force Headquarters.
PSC Reaffirms Commitment to Merit
Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), mni, congratulated the promoted officers and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency, meritocracy, and professionalism.
He described the promotions as a recognition of hard work, discipline, and competence, urging beneficiaries to regard their new ranks as a call to greater responsibility and enhanced service to the nation.
The PSC Chairman also commended the Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters, chaired by DIG (Dr.) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), alongside other board members, for their diligence throughout the promotion process.
